Dr. Paula is a dedicated change leader passionate about transforming eye health care in Africa. As a doctor of optometry with advanced training in ophthalmology from University College London and Moorfields Eye Hospital, she brings a wealth of expertise to her mission. Her vision is to position Africa, particularly Ghana, at the forefront of eye health innovation.
In partnership with Eye Health Africa and another medical professional, Paula co-founded an Eye Imaging and Digital Health Centre. Their goal is to make it the leading hub for advanced eye imaging across the continent, aligning with the global shift toward digital health systems.
Currently, Paula is developing a workbook series titled Making Sense of an OCT Printout, designed to help practitioners interpret OCT scans more accurately. These educational tools will soon be digitized to improve accessibility.
A strong advocate for child eye health, Paula is committed to removing preventable vision barriers to children’s academic success. Her centre is collaborating with EHA to establish a paediatric unit that offers affordable, accessible care.
Recognizing diabetic eye disease as a major cause of blindness, Paula has initiated a screening campaign in Tema. This effort aims to gather critical data and push for a national diabetic eye screening policy in Ghana.
